title: Find everyday friction
description: Start with a specific problem people encounter in a digital product.

[CryptX 2.0 Designathon Workshop I: Designing for Impact](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S65lzQ6s5ig)

The exercise begins by noticing frustrating moments in everyday digital services. The speaker asks participants to write down multiple friction points before choosing one to explore.

## Make the problem specific

Describe what is difficult and when it happens. “The food app is bad” is too broad. “It takes too many steps to place a food order” points to a moment you can investigate. Other examples in the workshop include inaccurate train tracking and a cafeteria menu that is hard to read.

Look for problems in services you know, such as transport, food ordering, or a library booking system. Choose one problem that connects with your interests, skills, or curiosity.

## Try it

1. List several frustrating moments from digital products you use.
2. Rewrite each one so it describes a specific situation.
3. Pick one problem to take into the next step.
